My name is Ji MA (马季; first name pronounces “G”), Assistant Professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. I’m also an affiliated faculty member of the Center for East Asian Studies and the School of Information at UT Austin. Here are my CV and recent publications.

My focus on the nexus of technology and society, also one of the three core research areas in the UT Strategic Plan, has deeply shaped my contributions to nonprofit studies, an emerging interdisciplinary research field that examines the roles of nonprofit organizations in addressing complex societal issues.

My research has three main areas: (1) using data and algorithms to bridge technology with nonprofit studies, equipping scholars and practitioners with advanced tools to confront social issues; (2) promoting interdisciplinary and equitable knowledge production in nonprofit studies, supporting the development of this nascent field toward intellectual maturity; (3) analyzing the resilience and evolution of civil society in authoritarian regimes through novel computational methods, introducing new theoretical perspectives and research avenues for studying civil societies in restrictive contexts.
