马季博士现任美国德克萨斯大学奥斯汀分校LBJ公共事务学院助理教授,兼任该校东亚研究中心、信息学院助理教授,牛津大学访问学者(2024-26),中国科学技术大学国际访问教授(2024)。他的研究与教学主要关注科技与社会发展。具体研究方向包括:大数据与人工智能在非营利和公共部门的应用,计算社会科学研究方法,非营利与慈善研究的知识生产与学科发展,知识公平,国家与社会关系。
马季教授获美国印第安纳大学礼来家族慈善学院博士,并在信息学院辅修数据科学;北京师范大学社会政策硕士;安徽医科大学医学学士。在加入LBJ学院之前,他曾在哈佛大学定量社会科学研究所(IQSS)任研究员。他在非营利研究、公共管理、社会学、政治学、数据科学等顶尖国际期刊均有一作代表作,并是 Nonprofit Management & Leadership 和 Voluntas 的编委会成员。他还拥有多元的行业经验:他曾是一名社会企业家、商业管理咨询顾问,以及调查记者。

Dr. Ji Ma is currently an Assistant Professor at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, with joint appointments in the university’s Center for East Asian Studies and School of Information. He also serves as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Oxford (2024–26) and International Visiting Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China (2024). His research and teaching focus on the intersection between technology and society, with specific emphases on: (1) applications of big data and artificial intelligence in the nonprofit and public sectors, (2) computational social science research methods, (3) knowledge production and disciplinary development in nonprofit and philanthropic studies, (4) knowledge equity, and (5) state-society relations.
Dr. Ma earned his Ph.D. from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University, with a minor in Data Science from the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. He holds a Master’s in Social Policy from Beijing Normal University and a Bachelor’s in Clinical Medicine and Medical Psychology from Anhui Medical University. Prior to joining the LBJ School, he served as a researcher at Harvard University’s Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS). His first-authored works have been published in leading international journals spanning nonprofit studies, public administration and policy, sociology, political science, and data science. He serves on the editorial boards of Nonprofit Management & Leadership and Voluntas.
Dr. Ma brings diverse professional experience, having worked as a social entrepreneur, management consultant, and investigative journalist. His interdisciplinary background bridges academic rigor with practical insights into organizational development and social innovation.
